We’re thrilled to introduce Natalie Weber, a senior at the University of Mississippi, as she takes us through her journey as a college baton twirler. Natalie has been twirling for an impressive 17 years and is a solo and team competitor. Here’s an inside look into her game day experience, favorite moments, and tips for aspiring college twirlers!

Favorite Part of Game Day

For Natalie, game day is nothing short of magical. “My favorite part of game day is the Grove Show and leading the parade to the stadium with the drum majors,” she shares. The excitement of performing in front of passionate fans creates an atmosphere that is truly unforgettable.

Memorable Game Day Experience

One standout moment that Natalie treasures is twirling fire in front of the student section during night games. “They turn off all the lights in the stadium, and the energy is always amazing!” It’s a thrilling performance that leaves both Natalie and the audience buzzing.

Love About Twirling

For Natalie, twirling at the University of Mississippi isn’t just about performing—it’s about giving back to the community that has given her so much. “Being able to be a representative for my university is something I’m incredibly grateful for,” she says. “Ole Miss has given me so many amazing opportunities, and I’m so glad I can give back by being a feature twirler.” Natalie’s role as a twirler goes beyond the football field. It’s about embodying the spirit of Ole Miss and building connections with the fans, students, and alumni. “The pride I feel when I put on my costume and step onto the field is indescribable,” she says. “I love being part of a community that values tradition and supports its athletes.”

Game Day Traditions and Rituals

Every athlete has their own pre-performance rituals, and Natalie is no exception. “I’m definitely a little superstitious when it comes to game day,” she admits with a laugh. Her routine starts with getting the same loaded tea from Oxford Sip to kickstart her day. Then, right before pregame and halftime, Natalie shares a special moment with her fellow twirlers, Elsie and Alexis. “When there’s 45 seconds left on the clock, I give Elsie and Alexis two high-fives, a tight hug, and tell them I love them,” she says. This simple tradition helps calm any pre-performance nerves and brings the trio closer together.

Natalie’s attention to detail even extends to her game day preparations the night before. “On Thursday nights, I get a spray tan, and after practice on Friday, I come home and hang up my practice outfit for the game. I lay out my costume, hairpiece, and earrings, and I pack my bag to make sure I have everything I need,” she explains. She even parts her hair and sleeps in the same pajamas the night before every game!

Preparation Process

Preparation is key for Natalie. “On Thursday nights, I get a spray tan! After practice on Friday, I hang up our practice outfit and lay out my costume, hair piece, and earrings,” she details. Her meticulous approach ensures she has everything ready for game day. Natalie even admits to being a bit superstitious, parting her hair and sleeping in the same pajamas before games!

What on the menu

When it comes to fueling her body for a full day of twirling, Natalie keeps it simple but effective. “I always have peanut butter crackers and a protein shake before a game,” she shares. This combination gives her the energy she needs to stay on top of her game during long game days and high-energy performances.

Advice for Incoming College Twirlers

As a seasoned twirler with years of experience, Natalie has valuable advice for those looking to join a college twirling team: “Take every chance you can to represent your university and soak in every second!” College twirling, she explains, is a unique and special experience that goes beyond what you may have experienced in high school or competition. “Being a college twirler is easily my favorite part of baton twirling,” she says. “It’s such a unique experience, and you have to make the most of it. Above all, have fun!”

Natalie emphasizes that twirling at the collegiate level offers opportunities to grow as both a performer and a student-athlete. It’s a chance to represent your university in a visible and meaningful way, and she encourages incoming twirlers to embrace the opportunity with enthusiasm and pride.

A Grateful Heart

As Natalie enters her senior year at Ole Miss, she reflects on how twirling has shaped her college experience and given her a deep connection to the university. “I’m so grateful for everything Ole Miss has given me, and I’m honored to give back as a feature twirler,” she says.

From twirling fire at night games to leading the band in the Grove, Natalie’s journey is a testament to the joy, dedication, and passion that come with being a college baton twirler.
