Moving to Sun Devil territory we welcome the Arizona State University feature twirlers,
Kylie Cates, Emma Carr, and Cody Carter.
Kylie is a Senior at ASU majoring in Environmental
Engineering. She is also the reigning 2022 USTA Grand National Strut Champion, Grand
National Twirling Champion, Collegiate Solo Twirling Champion, Collegiate Halftime Champion
and the WFNBTA Strut World Champion.
In true twirling fashion,she has been twirling for 19
years as a Jazz Doll in Ohio. Emma is a Junior majoring in Biomedical Science she is also the
2022 College Miss Majorette of America, and as a long live twirler she has been twirling for 14
years as a member of M Twirling Team. Finally we have Cody Carter, Cody is a Senior majoring
in Digital Theater or Theater Technology and as a born and raised Arizona boy he has been
twirling for 14 years. In the past year, Cody has won the Senior Men’s Grand National Twirling
Champion, and Senior WFNBTA Men’s 2-Baton World Champion.
The ASU Marching band is under the direction of Jim Hudson and the ASU feature
twirler coordinator is Cassidy Tse, a former ASU Feature Twirler. A typical ASU game day starts
with pre-game traditions, with the signature explosion block which is when the band runs around
during a drum cadence and spells out the letters “ASU.” Once pre-game is complete to get the
stadium excited for game day they watch the hype video on the big screen and the most popular
part is when the ASU Mascot, Sparky, stomps the bus of the opposing team while the football
team runs out on the field. After performing together in pre-game the ASU feature twirlers like to
incorporate their own routines so they have the best of both worlds. After a long and fun game,
the stadium joins the band and sings the Alma Mater together.
The ASU Feature Twirlers have loved the experience and friends they have made
through the program. They have loved the moments and opportunities including the Las Vegas
Bowl, especially seeing their halftime performance on ESPNW. Both Only Twirlers and the ASU
Feature Twirlers were so honored to have the ASU feature twirlers as this weekend's takeover.
